Shockwave Therapy
What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses short, powerful sound waves to target injured tissues. A handheld device is placed on the skin and sends pulses into the sore area. The session usually takes 10–20 minutes and does not require surgery or needles.
How It Helps
The sound waves can reduce pain and encourage the body’s natural healing. They may help break up scar tissue or calcium build-up and improve blood flow to the injured spot. Many people notice less pain and better movement after a few sessions.
What to Expect During Treatment
Your chiropractor will examine the area and explain the treatment plan before starting. During the session you may feel tapping, pressure, or mild discomfort, which is usually brief. After treatment you can often return to normal activities, though some soreness for a day or two is common.
Is Shockwave Therapy Right for You?
Shockwave therapy can be effective for chronic tendon and muscle problems like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, or shoulder pain when other treatments haven’t fully helped. It is not suitable for everyone—pregnancy, bleeding disorders, or certain implanted medical devices can rule it out. Talk with your chiropractor to see if shockwave therapy fits your condition and overall care plan.
